The Fight Physio and UFC281

I’m writing this blog on my flight from Auckland to New York, on the 3rd longest flight in the world, Air New Zealand’s newest flagship route.
Somehow I was afforded an upgrade to Sky Couch, essentially a full row of seats that the leg rest folds up to make a short bed. Being allowed to sit up, legs spread across the row while watching a hilarious movie, is a luxury. Makes up for being in the skies on my sons 1st birthday. Being a week out from the fight, I bumped into a few of the team on the plane too, making it a familiar flight.

My last overseas travel with the team was UFC278, Adesanya v Cannonier to Las Vegas. That was the first overseas trip since the borders opened to us, there were 2 champions that I’ve been a part of the journey, Alex Volkanovski, defending their belts. I thought it would have been the beginning of travels once again. I had all intentions of travelling to UFC279 in Dallas to support Kai v Moreno, and Blood Diamond was on that card too. However, covid had other plans, and unfortunately it was not going to play out for that trip. Therefore when this fight was made aware, I was in plans for this trip to Madison Square Garden. Dan Hooker was announced and so was Carlos Ulberg – another card stacked with our team.

I got to walk the famed Times Square, and catch up with a colleague, John Love, who’s now working with New York Rugby, for a couple of beers and a yarn.

I will be making my way up to have a week at their X Mansion training facility, and here to make a difference. If you’re reading this pre-fight, tune in, cheers us on, and let’s get our NZ boys taking over Madison Square Garden and over the world stage!
